Ambergris Cay Chronicles: Bonefish Paradise Park

Bonefish Paradise Park

During my last trip to Ambergris Cay I had the pleasure of flying over to South Caicos, just a ten-minute flight, and fishing with Captain Ganger Lockhart on his airboat. Yes, I did say airboat! Bibo Jayne and Captain Ganger offer a fun one-of-a-kind bonefish adventure on South Caicos, and because of the incredibly shallow water they utilize airboats instead of the more conventional flats boat.

Raz Reid, Captain Martee and myself left Ambergris Cay at 8am and were cruising over the sugar white flats of South by 8:30. The beautiful thing about fishing in South Caicos is that it is all wading on hard, light colored bottom… a bone fisherman’s dream come true.

Upon reaching our destination, Captain Ganger anchored the airboat and we jumped out for our first wading session. The bonefish were everywhere and the white sand made them look as if a spotlight was on them. We caught several, one of which was a nine pounder which is my biggest bone to date.

Towards the end of the day Captain Ganger put the icing on the cake by putting us on a flat with hundreds of happy tailing bones. I made my last cast right into a group of crisscrossing bonefish tails that were shimmering gold in the late afternoon sun… Hooked Up!
